Prior to graduate school, Eric trained as an architectural designer, from 2008 to 2013. Today, Eric maintains a connection to design, in the form of spatial experimentation. This experimental design practice—called Decoding Labs—strives to create unusual and unexpected, typology-defying spaces and assemblages that create maximum effect with minimal means. Some of these projects arose out of urban interventions and pop-up events organized with Spontaneum, while others were pioneered in various communes and other projects. While these projects are generally less central than Eric’s academic work, they continue to inform Eric’s practices, by producing an environment that defies conventions and makes space for alterity.
