Designed in the fall of 2011 at the height of the Occupy Movement. The site, situated just one block from Occupy Oakland, is bisected by a BART station entrance, and was slated to become an advertising agency. The objective of the project was to introduce an architecture that is self-aware of programmatic communication within the occupant organization and to point out internal contradictions within that organization--in this case the advertising agency. By making the central feature of the building the hourglass-shaped bridge between the input/output portion of the company (their public relations department, which presents an image to both clients and capital), and their site of production (labor as well as management), the relationship between the two contradictory functions of the company is made the very subject of their structure.
